We believe in the Pentecostal experience and adhere to the Apostolic Doctrine as taught by Jesus Christ himself and expounded upon by the apostles. (Acts 1:1 - 2:47)
Our ministry is Holistic, which is to say we minister to the whole man, body, mind and spirit.
Our Mission:
To teach, train, equip and empower the body of Christ to live the abundant, victorious life as we await the eminent return of Jesus Christ..
Evening Light Church of Christ began in May 2003, in the family room of the pastors’ home. With GOD on our side, the help of Minister Wm. Craig, a telephone, boom box and headset we had a full teleconferencing service. Souls from various parts of the country would dial in to hear the Word of God. People reported being healed, saved, and delivered from the bondage of sin.
The Lord showed us his favor. Upon asking Pastor Charles Galbreath of Bowie New Life Assembly, if we could use their facilities for afternoon service they readily agreed.
With the blessing of his pastor, Bishop Alphonzo D. Brooks, Elder Pettus and his wife Doretha left the Mother Church on September 28, 2003 and began holding 3:00 P.M. Sunday services.
After two years, the Lord blessed us to purchase 5.72 acres in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. We began conducting morning worship and afternoon services in the tent. Souls continue to be saved, healed, and delivered from the bondage of sin.
During that winter a storm destroyed our first tent. Pastor Carol Spriggs and Philadelphia Open Door Church allowed us to have service in their chapel, and then the main sanctuary. Again, the Lord blessed. In 2009 began our bi-monthly radio and worldwide web broadcast "Promises from the WORD" on WYCB 1340.
In 2013 we moved into a temporary location where we shared space with True Freedom Ministries, pastored by Pastor's Ken and Lanie Alston.
In October 2016 we were able to burn the mortgage on the property and purchase a new and larger tent. Services have resumed on the church property.
We have adopted Patuxent Elementary School and conduct an annual uniform drive to provide for those less fortunate. We also donate monies monthly, to feed the homeless at Elizabeth House. Part of the plan for the new facility is to establish a "Living Free" ministry location for those needing mental support, senior programs, and community meeting hall.
In May 2003, Elder Pettus was consecrated to the bishopric in the Lord's Church.
" He said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved:... And these signs shall follow them that believe; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover " Mark 16:15-18
